BURGHLEY HORSE TRIALS

Today I went to Burghley Horse Trials for the first time which is held at Burghley House, the large, beautiful Elizabethan building in Cambridgeshire with even larger grounds.

BOXING RING CHIC

Thankfully, the heeled sneakers trend is going nowhere.  Italian footwear brand ASH has surfed the popularity wave well, dominating the hi top wedges market last season and has brought out some cool new pairs for autumn/ winter.

The multi functional, multi seasonal Cool Wedge Trainer offers a nice contrast with the all black, mixed leather and suede uppers against the bright white sole.  I've got a pair of white trainer wedges but I think I owe it to my feet to add these to my shoe collection too...

NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL

Everyone loves Notting Hill Carnival, even policemen. Photos from a jolly good carnival a couple of years ago...  Have fun if you're going today. See you there.

LONDONERS AT PLAY

Car-ni-val! It's here, once again. I'm off to spend the day over in West London, but before I go here's a great photograph of Notting Hill Carnival frolicking I saw at a private view at the Getty Gallery's Londoners at Play exhibition earlier this week.

To celebrate a massively historic summer for London, Getty Gallery's retrospective exhibition reveals how Londoners spent their leisure time from the late 1800s to the modern day, through a collection of superb archival imagery.

ESPRIT

Earlier this summer I went to the opening event of the relaunched Esprit store on Regent Street.  The Californian brand has had a bit of an image overhaul (see Gisele advertising campaigns) and gave its London flagship a bit of a refresh with a sleek new shopfit and threw a little soiree to celebrate.

PLASTIC PETALS

Retro, 1950s-inspired statement jewellery with a modern, bright pop of colour is a winning combination.  ASOS deliver with these pretty Flower & Jewel Drop Earrings in cobalt blue and pale pink, baby pink and emerald green and lilac purple and magenta.

THE LUCKY PIG

Last night I went for midweek cocktails at The Lucky Pig in Fitzrovia, which is a cool speakeasy-style basement bar decorated with an eclectic mix of dimly-lit vintage lampshades, shabby chic chaise longues, mismatched bar stools and leather chairs, red velvet curtains with retro posters and peculiar, bohemian antiques scattered everywhere.  If you like the decadent decor of Experimental Cocktail ClubThe Box and Les Trois Garcons you'll love it here too.

FLUO JEWELS

This gorgeous necklace and bracelet set from Butterfly by Matthew Williamson is in the Debenhams sale:

Matthew Williamson Fluorescent Pink Vintage Facet Disc Necklace

This vintage style necklace from Matthew Williamson features a silver multi disc pendant design with sparkling glass stone centres surrounded by eye catching fluorescent pink facet stones and set on a wide snake chain.

Fluorescent Pink Vintage Facet Disc Bracelet

I like brightly coloured jewellery sets to offset an otherwise plain outfit and these pretty neon pink jewels would look great with my numerous simple black dresses.

THE SECRET BACKSTAGE WEAPON

You know you're onto a good thing when you cut a product in half to squeeze out the remnants before you throw it away.  The most recent victim of my scissors is the cult classic Creme de Corps by Kiehl's.  The award-winning enriched body lotion has had legions of international fans for decades and after being sent it to try, I'm the latest to discover what a pleasure it is to use...

ALL STARS

On my feet today is the latest addition to my burgeoning sneakers collection, a new pair of go-with-everything Converse trainers in brilliant white leather.  They won't stay white for long, but they're pretty dazzling right now...  This is my second pair of Converse, and third pair of white trainers.  I must stop.  For now.  Although I still want to add these heeled Nike Dunks to my shoes wardrobe, but these fall under the heel category anyway, and everyone knows that there's no limit on the number of pairs of heels a girl can own.

The iconic Chuck Taylor ALL STAR by Converse is a must have. This low version with a leather upper and classic shape remains a timeless design.

HEY SISTER

I'm digging the vintage graduated floral print emblazoned on this summery short suit from Sister Jane.

The rest of the collection focuses on tailoring with a feminine edge and includes patterned shirts, blouses with Peter Pan collars and frilled capes. So if you like a contradictory girly take on androgyny and masculine pieces adorned with pleats and lace appliqués, check them out at ASOS.

TRUE COLOURS

Today I'm using this colourblock satchel from ASOS crafted from five different leathers and suedes.  It  goes with and clashes with everything, which works for me.  I also like that it's a reasonably small size, so forces me not to carry around my kitchen sink, as usual...

LANA DEL REY FOR H&M

The photos of Lana Del Ray’s debut campaign fronting H&M’s AW12 collections have emerged and they’re just as you’d expect – 60s styling with big, backcombed bouffant hair, winged black eyeliner, sex kitten fluffy pink jumpers and a lot of smouldering pouting.

RISQUE ROJA

A few months ago I was invited to Madame JoJo's for the launch of Risqué, the latest creation from British fragrance house Roja Parfums.  We met the charming creator, fragrance expert extraordinaire and arguably the world's most respected perfumer, Roja Dove, who passionately talked us through the process of creating Risqué and all of its unique ingredients before introducing burlesque star Miss Polly Rae to the stage.

My Wedding Dress

This is what I wore to my uncle's wedding last month (obviously not mine, silly!)  I bought the Bella Bodycon Dress from Whistles in a lunchtime panic the day before the nuptials as I spent the previous night going through my dresses rail doing some foot-stamping...  Turns out I do have versatile wedding guest/ races/ champagne reception style dresses, but none that my family hadn't seen.

TELL ME ABOUT IT, STUD

Created by Fortune is a cool new jewellery and accessories brand by Brooklyn-based designer Melissa Fortune.  Born and raised in NYC, Fortune studied fashion design at the Pratt Institute whilst interning at Fila where she honed her masculine, sporty aesthetic before establishing the label in 2009.  I've been sent this wicked Pewter Stone Wrap Bracelet made from metallic grey leather and decorated with grey swarovski stones stitched on top, closed with a magnetic clasp.

Her edgy collections are designed for rebels with a feminine twist; everything from bowties, necklaces, converse trainers and collars are embellised with studs for a glamorous meeets grunge, rock chic look.  I could wear it all.  You should too.

DAYVAN COWBOY

I was one of those awful teenagers, locking myself away in my room to play my CDs (remember them?) over and over again until my mother was crying "TURN THAT OFF, OH MY GOD WHY WON'T YOU TURN THAT OFF".  I say 'crying' in the literal sense, she was once weeping desperate, angry tears because I wouldn't stop playing Beautiful Crazy by Space Raiders (which I first heard on MTV: Extreme Alpine Chills and Glacial Beats back in 2001 - I can attest that this is indeed a great record to listen to skiing).  Sorry about that, Mama...

Anyway, my obsessive nature shows no sign of waning and I've been known to listen to one song on repeat on my iPod for days on end.  This week's repeat track is Board of Canada's Dayvan Cowboy.  By no means a new obsession, this is perhaps the fifteenth cycle of listening to one of Boards of Canada's tracks non-stop for a week or so then not hearing it for months.

An oldie but a goodie.

TOCCA

Introducing cool newly-reinvented label Tocca, the 90s womenswear brand which is back for 2012 led by Emma Fletcher.  The Aussie designer takes inspiration from English school uniforms to create a small but perfectly formed capsule line of masculine sharp tailoring and feminine delicate detailing in a muted palette of nudes and blacks.

My favourite from Tocca's Autumn/ Winter collection is this Bianca Crochet Dress in a relaxed sweater dress shape, made from merino wool with cut out polka dots. One to watch (again).

PASTEL PINK SPORTS LUXE

I love this girly sports-luxe inspired look in a shoot for Elle Vietnam this spring.  Model Naty Chabanenko rocks the pastel hair trend with a hefty dose of pale pink, white and pale shades in loose-fitting flowing separates.

HI THERE, GIELLY GREEN

I'm loving the Gielly Green collection of luxury hair products for everyday use.  I was sent the Classic Shampoo (which lathers up a treat for a really fresh, clean finish) and Classic Conditioner to try, which smell incredible (of grapefruit and cassis, apparently) whilst leaving hair feeling shiny and smooth.

The shampoo is enriched with Argan Oil, Aloe Vera and Shea Butter which offer natural nourishment for all hair types.  The conditioner features Jojoba and Evening Primrose Oil which help detangle, restore manageability and make hair easier to comb.

I'm sure products which smell great are a self-fulfilling prophecy; when they smell divine, you tend to use them more and spend double the time shampooing/ conditioning (or is that just me)? so it's basically a treatment.  A pleasure to use and do the job; I'll certainly be buying them when they run out...  I need to check out the salon too.

Gielly Green shampoo and conditioner (£16 each) are available at Beauty Bay

MARKUS LUPFER

Today I'm wearing my bargainous new Markus Lupfer dress from THE OUTNET.

Printed cotton-blend sweater dress in black, navy and white (I love how versatile it is having pieces with both blue and black in, as I'm always clashing).  Mid-weight cotton and wool-blend with a feather print, striped intarsia and ribbed trims.

Wearing with Topshop nude leather handbag, Carvela satin sneakers and hella bracelets.  Look how much my dip dyed hair has faded!  I still like it though, hair which looks like a flame is pretty cool too...

OH LA LA

I'm off to Paris for a long weekend in a couple of weeks - I can't wait, I haven't been for almost two years! - and I've been planning my fantasy French wardrobe; you know the one you want to wear but never actually do (Breton stripes, beret etc) and if I was going down the tongue-in-cheek stylish tourist route, this would be my jumper of choice.

We love Zoe Karssen's quirky designs, and this cotton-blend jersey sweatshirt, printed with the words 'Oh La La', is a playful choice. Wear it at the weekend with skinny jeans and ballet flats for a cool off-duty look.

Check out more of the Amsterdam-based designer's funny little Francophile slogan tops herehere and here.

DOWN IN FLAMES

I don't have any McQ in my wardrobe, the diffusion line from the late, great Alexander McQueen.  Or indeed anything from the Alexander McQueen main label in my wardrobe either, what's up with that?

I'm going to fix that first point with these flame appliquéd heels in nude and black leather from McQ by Alexander McQueen...

McQ by Alexander McQueen court shoes. Combination of contrasting pieces that come together in a stylish pattern. Almond toe. Stiletto heel. 100% leather.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

Mimi Noor is a gorgeous boutique in Bath which has just branched out online with a brand new website stocking a whole bunch of stylish womenswear brands such as American Retro, Stylestalker and Zoe Karssen. I was sent a Gina Stewart Cox bracelet to celebrate the launch last month (I love these bracelets - have I mentioned I have a bracelets addiction?) which I've barely taken off since...
