Warehouse Embellished Collar and Cuff Dress

Check out this Embellished Collar and Cuff Dress from the new Warehouse autumn collection.  There certainly isn't a shortage of a) dresses b) black or c) embellished party outfits in my wardrobe, but I can see some cutesy girl like Zoey Deschanel wearing it with a beret and dark lips for a glamorous evening take on gothic with a 60s look.  And I like that look.

The embellished peter pan collar and cuffs is decorative enough, so I'd keep it simple with no jewellery, opaques and black heels.

'Warehouse Loves! A must have piece at a must have price. Dazzle the night away in this glamorous update to the classic LBD. The sheer arms and embellished collar adds a touch of elegance. Simply add a pair of killer heels for a great night out.'

•15cm/6 inch patent wedges and 4.5cm/2 inch platform

•High traction ribbed sole, reinforced almond toe

LBDs from ASOS

I arranged my brother's fiancĂ©e's hen party last weekend and the dress code was sleek, stylish and chic LBDs.  None of that tacky 80s garb, neon tutus, pink feather boas and jokes t-shirts rubbish, thanks very much!

So as I obviously didn't want to wear a little black dress which I already own, I hit up ASOS for special party frocks suitable for the occasion (and then accidentally bought orange and navy work dresses too...)

Body con dress by ASOS BLACK. Featuring an all over sequin embellished design, wet look finish, form fitting style with a slash neckline, long sleeves and a cut out design to reverse.

Frill shoulder dress by French Connection. Featuring a deep v-neckline, sleeveless styling with frilled detailing to the shoulders, a wrap front design with pleats from the side, and a mini length, with a concealed zip fastening to reverse, in a smooth, sleek finish.

I think I'm actually going to take this one back as satin is a bit too "hen party" and no one wants to look hen party-ish on a hen party...  Or indeed ever.

Drape strap dress featuring keyhole detail to the front and reverse, halter neck, cross over front and draped straps.

This is the one I wore.

Jersey dress, featuring a statement twist knot design to the side and a deep scoop neckline with cropped puff sleeves.

Shift dress featuring a statement low cowl-style back, a fitted waist with pleats on the bust and skirt, a high boat neckline to the front and layered short sleeves with pleat detailing.

I wear high/ very high/ ankle-sprainingly high heels (learnt the hard way...) most days so looking at photographs of comfortable-looking flat shoes is like porn, and Hobes shoes look seriously comfortable.  Hobes is a new Australian handmade, unisex shoe brand which has just launched in the UK with three styles of casual, well-cut shoes in nine colours. Other than the comfort (OMG I bet they feel like socks), I like the stripped down to basics simple design which is laid-back and versatile, making them a throw-in-your-suitcase-they’ll-go-with-everything staple shoe.

As a summery alternative to the shoeboot, I'd stomp around in the Women's Original Hobe in Charcoal Suede with summer dresses and pretty skirts.  The label launched in Melbourne last spring and is set to become a cult hit over here too; Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Poppy and Cara Delevigne have already ordered theirs - drop £104 and you’ll be in good, comfortable company.
