Stepping inside the grand neoclassical façade of the storied Pantechnicon building on the pedestrianised Motcomb Street, you sense the glamour of the French Riviera with stylish interiors and an informal, elegant atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely lunch.

Amélie's vision is bringing the spirit of the south of France to central London, offering the polish of a fine‑dining French restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and good value set lunch menu.

Outside, there's a nice sunny terrace with wicker chairs and white tablecloths surrounded by plants, ideal for catch ups over a bottle of fizz as the world walks by. We chose to sit inside, where the warm velvet banquettes, contemporary chandeliers, gilt mirrors and a bright, airy mezzanine add to the polished ambiance and that sun‑drenched Riviera feel.

On this visit, we opted for the prix fixe menu (available Monday to Friday) which offers two courses of Provençal‑style dishes for £29 or three for £34. We shared everything: devilled eggs and the burrata to start, and a croque-monsieur and beef ragu for mains. C'est tout bon.

Though we only had a couple of glasses of wine and cocktails - a glass of Charles Heidsieck Réserve champagne for me whilst we ordered, followed by Miraval Côtes de Provence rosé with the food - the restaurant's 26-page wine list is extensive, with bottles from world-renowned estates and little-known gems from family-run wineries.

We didn't, but if you have space for dessert, go for the mousse au chocolat - oui, the viral one - with a final coffee and a date in the diary for your next girls catch up.

Amelie offers simplicity and style, with the right balance of relaxed and refined. Whether you choose a table on the Côte d'Azur-inspired terrace or inside amongst the sophisticated interiors, you're going to have a good time here.
