Polo in the Park

Polo in the Park

Last weekend, I spent a lovely sunny day at Polo in the Park, catching up with a friend, sipping champagne, eating Patty & Bun burgers, and watching hot men on horses.  The perfect Sunday afternoon!

The annual event is the largest polo tournament in Europe and takes place over three days at Hurlingham Park in Fulham, with at least 3 matches on each day: International Friday, Ladies Day on the Saturday, and Finals Day on the Sunday, which is when we went.

Teams representing six cities from around the world compete in spectator-friendly matches with simplified rules: they play on a smaller polo field so the crowds are closer to the action, teams change ends only at halftime (instead of after each chukka) and they win double points for goals scored outside of the 45 yard ring.  It's a fast, fun sport to watch and there's a great atmosphere with a packed grandstand, a Pimm's O'Clock bus, a Lanson garden, and lots of food stalls and bars filled with a well-dressed crowd, complete with pretty sun dresses, red trousers and yummy mummies with their stylish tots.  I wore a bardot dress I picked up in a vintage store in NYC last January, an old purple wicker basket and my sturdy-heeled Kat Maconie silver sandals perfect for divot stomping.  It's a fun fixture on the summer social calendar and a lovely day out in London, especially when the weather behaves (which it luckily did when I went in 2014 too!) - see you next year?
