SEALS IN NORFOLK

SEALS IN NORFOLK

My Dad moved to Norwich when I was about ten, so the city has become somewhat of a second home.  When I visit I like to take my road bike and enjoy the super flat coastal roads (I'm not the biggest fan of climbing hills) and, when in season, visit the seal colonies along the Norfolk coast which we've done several times over the years.

Yesterday we went to Winterton-on-Sea, where there's a colony of several dozen grey seals who come ashore to have their pups in the winter months between November and January.  They suckle their young for a few weeks, during which time they grow from tiny to quadruple the size, spending their time bobbing around in the water, feeding, sleeping on the beach or rolling around basking in the sand.  They're curious little creatures, popping up and peaking around the sandbanks and watching them made for a very enjoyable hour.
