On 17 December 2011, the tropical storm struck northern Minanao in the southern Philippines, killing an estimated 1,200 people, leaving many still missing and survivors homeless.
The Washi storm was relatively small but the destruction was the worst the islands have ever seen. News coverage has died down in the past couple of months, but these evocative photographs will stay with you for a while.
