FRIDAY'S FFFFOUND: VIETNAM

Hanoi train, Vietnam - Asia travel blog
Good morning from Vietnam! Excuse the radio silence over the next two weeks, I'm currently in Ho Chi Minh City before heading to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, then Hanoi and over to Hong Kong - I'll be sharing where to stay, eat and drink, and our favourite sights soon. See you in April.

ORIENTAL RESIDENCE, BANGKOK

Bangkok is a vast, crazy city, with over 8 million residents sprawling across 606 square miles of streets filled with traffic jams, mopeds, tuk tuks, food markets and bustling crowds.  I really enjoyed our time there, but it was even more full on than I'd expected, especially after the peace and quiet of Phuket and Phang Nga.  Our relaxing retreat from the hectic hustle and bustle was the beautiful 5 star Oriental Residence in the embassy district.

BISCUITEERS EASTER EGGS

These Biscuiteers Easter egg biscuits are almost too pretty to eat (not really - there's only one left).  A pretty pastel tin was delivered to my door with nine hand-iced biscuits inside from the beautiful Easter collection; handmade chocolate biscuits, decorated with vanilla flavoured icing in the ornate style of imperial eggs - they taste delicious, look fantastic, would make a lovely gift and are an excuse to have a fancy tea party with your BFFs this spring. What's not to like?

PALE PINK

I have a confession: I am a terrible hoarder.  My bedroom is more of a dressing room with a bed in - I'm certainly not one of those bloggers with an enviable, neatly-organised walk-in closet - instead, I sleep in mine.

GALLERY MESS

On the Saturday during Fashion Week I went for lunch with my BFF Rachel from thenudestylist.com at Gallery Mess, the restaurant adjoined to the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea. The space itself is listed, with exposed brick walls decorated with neon signs and contemporary art from Andy Warhol to Cy Twombly, high vaulted ceilings and lots of natural light through the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the al fresco terrace and the green. We were greeted and seated by our friendly waiter Nelson and started with a lychee martini and a bowl of big green Nocellara olives.

RAINBOW SILK

I recently discovered a premium London label called CharmChuri which creates glossy silk satin scarves in colourful, charming prints.  The brand has Thai heritage with over 10 years' experience working with Asian silk designers and craftsmen to create vibrant designs in 100% pure silk, at affordable prices.  As each scarf is quite large at 106cm wide there are a variety of ways to tie it, but whichever way I like to wear simple black or navy to let the vivid rainbow colours speak for themselves.

THAILAND BOAT TRIP

A holiday isn't a holiday without a boat trip.  Lots of my favourite holiday memories have been at sea: sailing on a catamaran in Cuba, staying on a yacht in the south of France, island-hopping in Greece, bobbing around on a bottom glass boat in Jamaica, hiring our own speedboat to go along the Cinque Terre coast in Italy, going out through the canals to the Markermeer lake when my brother used to live in Amsterdam, being on a junk boat in Hong Kong, sailing around Corfu on a private boat - and plenty of boating fun in the UK too, spending five days on one for my Competent Crew course, racing on a J/109 at Cowes Week and zipping down the Thames on a RIB in London.  Being by the coast is one of my favourite things ever - one day I'll have that dream house by the sea - so when we were in Thailand last year it was a given we'd go on several boat trips.  This was my favourite.
