FRIDAY'S FFFFOUND: CORFU

28 June 2013

I'm heading out to spend a week in the sun in Greece.  I've been to Skiathos, Santorini, Crete, Kos (when I last visited Greece in 2007) and the mainland, but never Corfu.  We're renting a beautiful villa, taking boat trips and hiring bikes to explore the island. I can't wait. Aντίο!

Beautiful photograph of Corfu in Greece.

CORLETTE

27 June 2013

Luxury leather accessories brand Corlette presents an edgy, fully black collection for Autumn Winter 2013, featuring gloves, cuffs, ribbed belts and waist-cinching contouring corsets hand crafted in Italy from luxurious butter soft nappa suedes and high shine leather, lined with silk.

RAY-BANS SEASON

26 June 2013

Summer calls for permanent Ray-Bans-wearing and I opt for the modern design classic, the Wayfarer.  Ray-Ban has been producing the iconic, unisex Wayfarer since the 1950s so it's graced some seriously stylish faces from presidents to rockstars and James Dean to Marilyn Monroe, featured in some pretty iconic photographs and movies from the Blues Brothers and Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

Over the years it's been reinvented and the Wayfarer was revived in 2007 with a series of colours and patterns in addition to the original black.  I like to keep it classic mine in black or white.

LA CENTIÈME PRINTS

24 June 2013

To celebrate 100 years of the Tour de France this July, Rapha has commissioned ten artists to create La Centième prints commemorating cycling’s grandest race, each artwork representing the ten decades between 1903 and 2013. Each poster has a limited run of 100 and are selling out fast, get yours while you can.

TRIP TO SEVILLA

20 June 2013

A couple of months ago I took a few days out and travelled to Sevilla with my mummy.  I haven't been away with her on holiday or for a weekend break for years, so it was lovely to catch up and explore a warm, beautiful city neither of us visited before.  I do enjoy Spain; I've been to Barcelona, Madrid twice, Valencia, Granada, Malaga, Menorca, Ibiza and, ahem, the Costa del Sol and enjoyed it every time - the sunshine shines, the good and cheap cava is plentiful, the architecture, culture and history is something to behold and the food never fails to disappoint.  I'm pretty sure my last supper would include a hearty plate of jamon iberico.

HAIR BOWS

To bow or not to bow?  I have friends who love bows and some who don't as it reminds them of childhood dressing, in a bad way.  I like them.  French model Victoria Tuaz sports a variety of huge, colourful hair bows in 'the Sweet and the Powerful', photographed by Oskar Cecere and styled by Samanta Pardini in the May 2013 issue of Marie Claire China.

Next time you feel that your outfit needs a finishing touch, think of this girly shoot, although I personally go about half the size and opt for more discreet hair bows and hair accessories.

JONES

18 June 2013

Jones Bootmaker is one of those brands about which I've heard only good things (that their shoes are good quality, comfortable and last well) but I've never purchased from.  There always seems to be a store by train stations so I recently sheltered from the rain (in June, good old England) at a branch in the city whilst killing time waiting for a friend and these tassel loafer Garbine Ballet Pumps caught my eye in bright orangey pink patent leather (which also come in black).

These may be my first foray into the 150 year old British brand, because you can never have too many sensible but stylish flats to stash in your bag or under your desk on those days you're wearing vertiginous heels. (Most days, for me.)  They're in the sale too.

MAY INSTAGRAM PHOTOS

17 June 2013

May saw my birthday, celebrated at Cucina Asellina and Pollen Street Social, a few long bike rides to get some mileage in before the big 100 mile ride in August, my first trip to Secret Cinema (I was disappointed, don't believe the hype), several warm days (finally), a few sample sale splurges (McQueen and Preen), the Lichtenstein retrospective at Tate Modern and a lovely, sunny weekend in Somerset which I'll be blogging about soon.

VINTAGE FATHER'S DAY

15 June 2013

I'm always drawn to the flat, colour-rich quality of mid-century printed advertisements and card designs (I've shared these vintage Christmas cardsretro New Year's Eve postcardvintage Valentine's cards and old Easter print ad) and amused by the Mad Men-style subject matter of adverts like this... Instead of giving him a packet of fags, for Father's Day we've brought our bikes to my Daddy's for a weekend of cycling.  A healthy alternative.

SJP FOR NORDSTROM

14 June 2013

Sarah Jessica Parker announced in an interview in the recent issue of US Vogue that she's collaborating with Nordstrom on a line of shoes, bags and trench coats which will be out next year.  The collection will sell in the American fashion retailers 117 stores and online.

She's sensibly teamed up with George Malkemus, CEO of Manolo Blahnik, (Carrie Bradshaw's favourite) and I can't wait to see what she comes up with.  If there's one thing SJP knows about from six seasons of playing shoe-obsessed Carrie in Sex and the City and years of red carpet get-up, it's shoes.

REISS PIECES

13 June 2013

The Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection from Reiss features modern separates, razor-sharp tailoring, dapper men’s suits and timeless statement dresses.  My favourite item was this quilted silver leather jacket which was a real stand-out piece (and about a fifth of the price of a metallic Burberry one).

DIY INSPIRATION

12 June 2013

I fancy a DIY project, so I'm going to try my hand at creating a print similar to the below.  I first saw one about two years ago, so I ordered a butterfly stamp from some dodgy crafts website which took my money but didn't ship the goods.  A bad start, but I'm going to start again!  Another great idea for a DIY piece of art is this stamp masterpiece...

ANTICO SE1

10 June 2013

Bermondsey Street is one of my favourite areas in London and I've loved watching its gentrification over the past five years. Filled with bars and restaurants, I had my first date with my boyfriend in one, we celebrated my brother and his now-wife's engagement with Champagne in another, I've had countless cocktails and parties at Village East, plenty of evenings at my favourite Italian, Zucca (their seabass carpaccio is the stuff of dreams) and spent many hours at José Pizarro's tapas and sherry bar José and its big sister further down the road, Pizarro... So when a new place joins the club, I'm pretty excited.

FLOWER POWER

9 June 2013

New Italian magazine Garage featured Lithuanian model and Victoria's Secret babe Edita Vilkeviciute resplendent in full on florals, shot by French photographer Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele in its second issue last year and it's been saved on my computer ever since. Beautiful.

FESTIVAL SEASON

8 June 2013

Festival season is almost here!  The experience is just as important as the line-up and the trick to making sure you have the best time is having the right camping equipment, attire and accessories.  As always when outfit planning, I start from the bottom up: shoes.

I made the mistake of wearing heeled boots to T in the Park in 2005.  Bad.  Call.  My festival essentials includes wipe-clean wellies - I'll be taking my glossy black Hunters for wet and muddy conditions - and trainers (sandals, flip-flops or ballet pumps just get ruined so I stick with a comfortable pair of converse).  Mine are white leather, but I might pick up a darker pair...

YEAR OF THE SNAKE

6 June 2013

London duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi developed a unique mixed snakeskin pattern for Preen's Spring/ Summer 2013 collection, featuring panels of python print contrasted with stripes, stingray polka dots and orchid floral prints on loose organza shapes, bodycon jersey fabrics and statement dresses.

My favourite from the SS13 catwalk was the Jayne Dress (which I tweeted about at a My-Wardrobe press event back in November). I love when those I-have-to-have-it moments work out...

VIVIENNE WESTWOOD HANDBAG

3 June 2013

The time has come to add a Vivienne Westwood handbag to my collection.  Do I go for the shiny crocskin faux leather or the more expensive, matte, genuine leather version?

I'm always drawn to patent finishes, but then I prefer real leather over synthetic materials.  I have a brightly-coloured Vivienne Westwood purse, but I think I'd rather choose a versatile black for a handbag.  So, decision time: both bags have the large golden orb on the front, detachable straps, zipped internal pockets with beige and black striped lining.  Or do I mix it up with bordeaux red bag? Help me decide.

BIBA FEVER

2 June 2013

I came away from the House of Fraser Autumn/ Winter 2013 press event with two promises to myself: to finally invest in a Lulu Guinness bag (it's been eleven years of admiring her bags from afar - enough is enough) and to get my Biba on.  My favourite pieces from all the AW13 collections were mainly from Biba, the British megabrand back from the sixties and seventies, which relaunched in HoF in 2010.  This black and white sequinned cape has my name all over it...

WHAT TO WEAR TO A WEDDING

1 June 2013

If you have a summer wedding coming up and are searching for a nice guest outfit, take a look at the evening dresses from Almost Famous.  I recently visited the Fitzrovia showroom to see the Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection and these metallic feather print dresses jumped out, with their smart, modern cuts and snow white contrast cuffs. The beautiful, textured pattern has so much going on it needs little accessorising; I'd pair the blue dress with a simple black pillbox hat and royal purple shoes.

From the SS13 line, the stylish Ruched Party Dress in hot pink or jade green is versatile enough to wear to birthdays, garden parties, the races or work.
