LIGHTBULB

When I moved house I discovered amongst the boxes of childhood tat and keepsakes a diary from when I was nine years old, filled with absolute gold. Things like 'sat next to Julia all day today!', 'just heard that Bridget Jones is bring turned into a film, yesssss!' (I'm impressed and appalled in equal measures that my mum let me read Bridget Jones' Diary aged nine) and 'went to IKEA today and chose some pretty candles, nice candlesticks and cool cushions!'.

Many years on, not much has changed. I still like Julia, Bridget Jones (1 & 2) is firmly up there as a classic (book & film) and my soft spot for Scandinavian interior design has turned into a full on obsession.

I've just come across this minimal, Scandi style Neostil Inside Theo Lamp White from fashion and interiors store Goodstead. It's a multi purpose light fitting which can be fixed to a wall, shelf or can be used as a desk light. I love bare, unfussy lighting and although I don't usually like exposed bulbs, this is an exception to the rule.

IN THE NUDE

PIECES is an accessories label founded in 2003 by Bestseller, the fashion group which owns J.Lindeberg, Vila and Vero Moda.  The Scandinavian brand offers some great bags and shoes, priding itself on contemporary design at accessible prices.

STUDDED MCQUEENS

I bought these black leather heeled pumps from Alexander McQueen's MCQ diffusion line before guiltily returning them (it's been an expensive month...).  Now I regret it - you can never have enough pairs of black shoes, the white rubber contrast sole is very Stella McCartney and the studs give them a rock chic edge, The pointed toe is sharp but not too pointy, there's a 0.5inch platform so they're (relatively) comfortable and the leather was nice and soft.  What was I thinking?

THE VIEW FROM THE SHARD

Earlier this week I attended a press preview for The View from The Shard, the new tourist attraction  at the top of London's latest landmark, which opens to the public on 1 February 2013.

WOAH BLACK BETTY

The snow has started to melt, so I can wear nice leather shoes again.  I'm wearing my new studded ankle boots from Betty London today, which are nicer than the wellies and sturdy boots I've been sporting lately, but still sensible with its low chunky heel. I'm not falling over on the ice in these bad boys.

WEEKEND IN BELFAST

One of my favourite weekends last year was spent in Belfast with my best friend from school who'd just got back from nine months of travelling.  A big catch up was in order.  We visited the Northern Irish city in late November for a wintry break when the Christmas lights were being turned on, the temperature stayed consistently low and it flit between cold rain and blue skies the whole time we were there.

SWEATER GIRL

I watched Mad Men for the first time this weekend (criminally behind the times, aren't I?) and the beautiful, mid-century fashion reminded me of one of my favourite editorials from US Vogue in recent years.

2013 CAMPARI CALENDAR

The new Campari calendar focuses on the unlucky, enigmatic number 13, featuring Penelope Cruz with superstitious symbols, shot by fashion photographer Kristian Schuller.

My favourites are the walking under ladders, black cats, open umbrellas indoors and broken mirrors ones but they're all beautiful shots, as are the head to-toe-red outfits.  Can you guess them all?

LOVE MOSCHINO

As a magpie, I'm drawn to anything shiny and like wearing sequins, patent leather, stacks of jewellery and there's a fair portion of metallics in my wardrobe.  I recently had to throw out a much-loved ASOS silver snakeskin satchel because it had ripped so I swiftly replaced it with this metallic bag from Love Moschino.

The playful younger sister of Moschino, the diffusion line offers a fun collection of accessories, featuring prints, patterns and the signature heart motif on cool shoes and bags.

NEW SEASON BODEN

I opened the curtains with childlike wonder yesterday morning, which lastest all of two hours before London's snow melted completely. Cold weather is great when there's a sparkling white blanket over everything, but rubbish when it's the grey skies in between, which is what we've reverted to now. Roll on Spring.

Love You, Hate You

It's cold outside so I'm sat on the sofa blogging and drinking tea in one of my new excitingly font-heavy Love You Hate You mugs from Rose & Grey. The cream ceramic mugs spell LOVE YOU on one side and HATE YOU on the other in good old-fashion circus font.

They were a belated Christmas present from my brother, who knows that anything typography-related is a goer in my book.  Thanks, hermano.  Check out more gift ideas at notonthehighstreet.com.

NEON NEOPRENE

The trusty satchel has been having a bit of a renaissance over the past few years, led by The Cambridge Satchel Company with its dozens of coloured, neon or printed leather models and the small smart-up's speedy foray into the largest retail markets (stocked at ASOS, Dover Street Market, Harrods, Urban Outfitters, etc).

The trend for contrasting textures is still popular too, with neoprene popping up on sports luxe items on both the catwalk and high street (we never would have seen pretty embellished dresses with a surf-inspired wetsuit turtleneck and chunky zip five ago) with these neoprene satchels from Topshop's new Spring/Summer 2013 collection marrying the two trends together perfectly.

SALE SHOES

Today I'm wearing these bright tomato red suede ankle boots I picked up in the Zara sale last week.  When I wear ankle boots with skirts I like them nice and low sitting on your ankle bone, as some designs are too high and appear to shorten the leg, so this height is perfect for me.

I spotted them earlier in the season and decided to see if they went in the sale.  I went into the Zara on Oxford Street and they had one pair left, in my size.  Fate.  I left happy with my purchase, but it's always a bit gutting to see items you bought full price are now dramatically reduced - my Zara cowboy boots are now 60% off, dammit...

LIZ EARLE CLEANSE AND POLISH

Pretty sure I'm preaching to the converted here, as every woman under the sun seems to cite it as a best beauty buy, but I am a recent convert to Cleanse and Polish after I was sent it to try.

THE DOLCE & GABBANA PRINT

As far as I'm concerned, Dolce & Gabbana has its very own print; Missoni has zigzags, Vivienne Westwood has tartan, Pucci has kaleidoscopic geometric patterns and D&G owns leopard print.

BLACK AND BLUE

I've been wearing my new Natuka Coat, kindly sent to me by Nelly, lots lately as it's so mild.  I haven't needed to wrap up (apart from watching the New Year's Eve fireworks up on Primrose Hill, where I wore my toasty warm Duvetica Jacket) so it's probably my most worn piece of outerwear this winter so far.

BACK TO SCHOOL SHOES

I like the elegant shape of these derby laced low cut shoe boots from luxury footwear brand Casadei.  I don't own any shoes from the Italian label so can't vouch for comfort, but I imagine these are pretty wearable as the square block heel is a reasonable height.  More sensible points are awarded for the smart high shine patent finish and pointed toe, whilst the muted grey and lace up fastening is very back to school...

The best thing is that the Casadei family have been making shoes for over 50 years and their products are made in Italy with good quality leather then finished by hand.  Molto buono.
