HATS OFF TO JIL SANDER

30 June 2012

I know I've probably missed the boat on this one, but I still want a veiled skullcap beanie from Jil Sander's SS12 runway collection, as seen on Vogue Japan Queen Anna Dello Russo.

Hats are one of those things I'm always drawn to try on and buy, nay, collect but rarely wear.  I've got at least thirty and if I want one of these, I'm going to have to make one as I can't justify spending £200+ on something I'll wear once a year.

PHILLIPS DE PURY CONTEMPORARY ART SALE

28 June 2012

How cool is this Jean-Michael Basquiat?  It's estimated to sell for £6,000,000-£8,000,000 (gulp) at my favourite gallery in London over the next two days. Phillips de Pury is hosting two sales of contemporary art lots at 7pm this evening (Thursday 28 June) and tomorrow at 2pm (Friday 29 June).
If three of those zeros were removed from the price, I'd be down there making myself a little bid...

JANCEY BALLERINAS

27 June 2012

I bought these incredibly girly Jancey Mid Heel Ballerinas in the Topshop sale yesterday.

The sugary, bubblegum pale pink is so sickly sweet I think they look wicked with masculine clothes in a dull palette of black and greys. Despite the mini 60s-style one inch heel, they feel just like flats. Comfortable, 100% leather and in the sale. Done.

Pink suede and patent ballerina shoes with bow detail. Also come in Mint Green and Apricot.

IRO BARBARA SEQUIN BASEBALL JACKET

26 June 2012

How cool is IRO's Barbara Sequin Baseball Jacket? It first caught my magpie eye a few months ago when the French label launched its SS12 collection and now it's in the sale.

EAU RAVISSANTE

25 June 2012

I've been wearing L'Occitane's brand new cologne Eau Ravissante every day since I was sent it a couple of weeks ago and, boy oh boy, is it a nice summery scent.

As part of the new summer Eau de Cologne collection from the French fragrance house, Eau Ravissante is joined by the unisex Eau Universelle and the men's aromatic Eau Captivante, all of which were inspired by fountains in the Provence region.

packaged in salmon pink decorated with gold art deco lettering

Eau Ravissante evolves as you wear it and seems to tick all the floral/ fruity/ musky boxes; it starts off with a fresh, delicate bouquet of rose petals and damascena rose extract, moves onto zesty lemon and citrus notes then finishes with lingering amber and musk as it warms on the skin.

50ml (£21) or 300ml (£37)

I normally choose eau de parfum for longevity, but the refreshing, watery style of a cologne suits summer well.  Even if the weather isn't great this "summer", we can at least pretend it's hot outside and this is perfect to splash onto skin after the shower and stay fresh.

HELLO MIISTA

23 June 2012

Shoes, welcome Miista to the family. I treated myself to a pair of the new footwear label's now-sold-out Hewson Naia platforms in black.  I love the unusual lace up woven detail on the upper made from cotton shoe laces and soft calf leather.

GERBE STOCKINGS

I am currently loving sheer stockings from French lingerie label GerbeFounded in 1895 and famed for luxury hosiery made with fine materials, Gerbe prides itself on high end products with stringent quality control checks - in fact, each pair includes a note from the QC employee inspecting them before pressing, folding and packaging by hand.

Gerbe is just about to launch the new 2012/2013 collections on 1 July 2012 but check out the stockings, hold ups and tights in the current range in the meantime.

Dior Addict pays tribute to Brigitte Bardot in this new Jonas Akerlund-directed sunny vintage postcard-style video featuring Dutch supermodel Daphne Groeneveld playing Bardot in St Tropez a la And God Created Woman.

It makes me want to go to the Côte d'Azur to dress up, play with kittens and dance with French boys in the sun. Bravo, Dior; nice film.

TI SENTO MILANO

20 June 2012

Last week I joined the glitterati of fashion journalists and socialites at the launch event for London Jewellery Week where I discovered plenty of new up-and-coming jewellery brands and admired lots of beautiful autumn/ winter collections.  I do love a good showcase...

Today I'm wearing this neat little pair of rhodium-plated sterling silver earrings which I was given at the Ti Sento Milano champagne reception at Somerset House.  Ti Sento jewellery is very good quality, very Italian, very classic; not to everyone's tastes but these earrings are versatile and make a nice change from crystal or plain silver discreet studs.

Simple, stunning Silver Bobble Stud Earrings made up of a series of small balls set in sterling silver, with a stem and butterfly fitting.

DVF

19 June 2012

Look fabulous this summer in Diane von Furstenberg's iconic signature wrap dresses, mood-boosting print blouses, sleek bikinis and fun accessories...

There's plenty of easy-to-wear, stylish  DVF over at THE OUTNET and I'm partial to the exotic print on the Cyrano printed silk-jersey dress and the glamorous Irina glitter-embellished suede sandals.

CANTINA

17 June 2012

Last week I went to see Cantina, a weird and wonderful vaudeville show which offered a good old-fashioned variety show of circus, burlesque, acrobatics, singing, gymnastics, dancing, magic, comedy and live music. What more could you want from a cabaret show?

BUDWEISER JUMPER

16 June 2012

Love this wicked jumper modelled by Wylie Hays and shot at Venice High School by sister snappers Claire and Amanda Thomas for LA jewellery and accessories label Luv AJ's Pink Lady lookbook.

The rest of the shoot is a little bit Avril Lavigne, but I guess that makes sense when your market is punk-inspired teenage girls, but I'd totally wear this Budweiser jumper, whether I'm their target demographic or not! Now, where can I get it?

ALICE TEMPERLEY FOR FILOFAX

I'm a big fan of British fashion designer Alice Temperley's work; her main line Temperley London, diffusion line Alice by Temperley (I love my tiger jumpsuit), her Barbour Gold Label by Temperley collection and, extending beyond fashion and into luxurious stationery, her latest venture with a Filofax collaboration.

NOWHERE DRESS

My new favourite dress is this beauty from Swedish fashion blogger extraordinaire Elin Kling's new label NOWHERE which I wore on my birthday in Croatia.

Baron Dress by NOWHERE in beige and black. Double fabric at front, the outer layer in a net fabric. Contrast fabric at the back and opening in the back, closed with hook and eye. Rounded neckline.

I love the simple, minimal cut and the urban mesh-overlay against the flesh-coloured nude cotton base layer.

The contemporarty collection includes perfect boyish basics for summer and offers a contrast between strong masculine lines and semi-transparent materials in a clean palette of black, white, grey, nude and animal print.

I don't know about you, but that's exactly what I want to be wearing this summer...  Shop NOWHERE at NELLY.COM.

DADDY'S GIRL

14 June 2012

Father's Day presents are so damn hard to get right.  My dad doesn't need or seem to want anything, doesn't have a wishlist and is always pretty difficult to buy for.  But here are three of my favourite Father's Day gift ideas I've seen.

McLaggan Daddy Rules mug (£8)
This fine bone china mug will brighten up any tea time. Dishwasher and microwave safe

Who doesn't like mugs?  He drinks tea and coffee; he's human.  Pretty failsafe, I reckon.

Hour Timer (£89.50)
Made from bobbins rescued from a Lancashire woollen mill, this lovely piece was expertly rehabilitated from Mark and Sally Bailey's Herefordshire farm.  The Baileys' eco-friendly 'rescue and re-use' principles breathe new life into old objects.

Who doesn't like objets?!  Men love having stuff like this in studies... He likes dark wood, I like recycled materials and the masculine, classic design should suit his home well.

De-Stress Muscle Kit (£45)
The new Aromatherapy Associates kit for men includes the highly acclaimed De-Stress Bath & Shower Oil (55ml) and De-Stress Muscle Gel (150ml).  Perfect for sportsmen, the powerful oil blends in each product are designed to relieve aching muscles and joints, making them ideal to use after a workout or a hard day in the office. The products include Herbaceous Lavender - a known analgesic that helps support tender muscles -  and Ginger and Black Pepper to warm and help boost circulation.

And thirdly, as he's a cycling and fitness fanatic, these wonderful-smelling products to help ease aches, strains, pains and sports injuries.

If he doesn't like these, he's not getting anything next year...

MMM FOR H&M

12 June 2012

Of all the high street collaborations, this is one of the most exciting (and surprising)... Lanvin for H&M was great, Versace for H&M was good but onto the next.

The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection of womenswear, menswear and accessories (can't they throw in MMM home too?) has been confirmed and will hit our stores 15 November 2012. In the meantime, here's a sneak preview video...

The spring/ summer sale eagle has landed today over at MY-WARDROBE.COM.  You have been warned...

Here are my favourites from the selection of stylish wardrobe essentials and seasonal must-haves with up to 50% off.

Animal print on animal print? Oh, go on then

can never have enough statement rings and silver jewellery

such a great summer colour and the shape is little bit Victoria by Victoria Beckham, non?

Kate Middleton would approve

versatile and a perfect height

wetsuit material + peplum in white = on-trend heaven

(I'm all over rose gold and these look great with bare legs and this season's pastels)

I blogged about this last month and the matching jumper which Cheryl Cole wore this weekend - if it's good enough for "Our Chezza..."

HEAVY GUNMETAL

This weekend I was wearing my new favourite necklace, this gunmetal Rosario metal collar choker from Rosie & Roses, at NELLY.COM.

Even though most of my jewellery is silver, I like the unusual dark gunmetal colour which lends a harder edge and offers a great contrast when worn with girly dresses and stacks of lighter silver bracelets, cuffs and rings. Three magic words I always want to hear: Pile. It. On.

NEON NUGGETS

7 June 2012

How'd you like these bracelets from Shashi?  I bought the yellow one from Shopbop.com to fuel my neon addiction...

This woven cord bracelet features faceted gold-plated beads. Adjustable sizing. Available in yellow, pink, green and orange.

Shashi was created by Ruby Kobo's designers Yuvi Alpert and Danna Kobo, who wanted to create a second jewellery collection which was more casual than their first line.  They were inspired by temple bracelets handed out during Hindu prayer ceremonies, the religious strings embedded with glittering stones that symbolise friendship, love and good luck.

My only concern is that I don't think the metal nuggets are plated in quite enough gold, as the beads are already appearing tarnished... Hmm.

PIMMS AND PENGUINS

6 June 2012

The sell-out success of 2011 is back!  On Friday I was invited to the first Zoo Lates of 2012 - I was looking forward to returning after last year and, again, it didn't disappoint.

ZSL London Zoo keeps its doors open late until 10pm every Friday in June and July.  It's a great opportunity to see the animals without the children (although there's face-painting, animal masks and costumes on hand if you feel like embracing your inner child) and discover the 750+ species along with a packed schedule of animal talks and feeds.

YES TO CUCUMBERS

5 June 2012

It was National Vegetarian Week Monday 21 - Sunday 27 May and I celebrated it by slathering on Yes To Cucumbers body lotion (£9.99) as aftersun on holiday in Croatia.

Yes To is an award-winning natural line of veggie beauty treats to nourish skin and hair.  The products contain quality organic fruits and vegetables and smell delicious.  If you have sensitive skin and like organic skincare, this one's for you.

Hypoallergenic body lotion by Yes To Cucumbers. Featuring a cooling formula enriched with aloe vera, cucumbers and green tea, the moisturiser soothes and protects sensitive skin while providing long-lasting hydration for softer, smoother skin. Jojoba Oil provides a lightweight, easily absorbing level of hydration.

HELLO CHRISTOPHER KANE

4 June 2012

I bought this Tidal Flower Tattoo Dress for £30 from Christopher Kane's latest sample sale (it's a good one to check out, keep your eyes peeled for the next one - I picked up a bargain at the last one too) which features about twenty different colours.  Versatile, non?  I like how unpretty it is.

Multi-coloured 100% silk jersey tank kneelength dress with tidal flower tattoo print.

This ornate swirly pattern Kane used on a number of pieces in his SS11 collections was inspired by badass Japanese yakuza tattoo designs.  Whenever I think of tattoo designs, I think of Ed Hardy (gross) but this is a) actually nice b) 100% silk and c) was $895.  Tattoo design done well...
