NELLY LEAP YEAR DEALS

NELLY.COM is celebrating the leap year by having a special offer every hour between 8am and 8pm today.  The 2-3pm (GMT) offer is 30% off the whole Dyrberg/ Kern jewellery collection. The award-winning Danish duo Christopher Dyberg and Henning Kern founded the jewellery label after meeting at design school in the 80s.  The majority of the pieces use strong steel casing over base metals, decorated with Swarovski crystal from Austria and gemstones.

VAISHALY SKINCARE

If you're looking for mega indulgent beauty products, then Vaishaly is for you. The skincare range is created by super-facialist Vaishaly Patel after working in the industry for years; her extensive client list includes Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rachel Weisz, Kirsten Dunst, Sophie Dahl and Nigella Lawson. All of whom have beautiful, glowing skin, non? Exactly, let's continue...

The treatments in her Marylebone salon have a waiting list of three months, but you can give yourself a mini-Vaishaly facial at home with the collection of 7 products. Her simple philosophy is that you don't need a lot of products to achieve perfect skin and so with a focus on pure, natural ingredients and a straightforward regime, the small range includes two cleansers, two day moisturisers and three night moisturisers.

I was sent the Night Nourisher (£75) to try and it certainly does the trick combating winter skin.  The rich treatment gently hydrates any dryness and the light sheen leaves your skin feeling protected.  The organic ingredients include bergamot, lemon, mandarin orange, grapefruit, this is making me hungry, geranium, orange, petitgrain and coriander.

I would suggest the Night Nourisher for normal/ combination skin for those who are prone to breakouts as it's a lighter, more absorbant oil than the dry/ sensitive skin product.  The fragrant essential oils make it a pleasure to massage in for soft, supple and plump skin.  You've got to give it a go.

UNRECOGNISABLE KATY PERRY

Katy Perry, we salute you.  The American singer looks smoking hot on the cover of the latest issue of Interview magazine.  She looks more than a little reminiscent of Liz Taylor in this black and white shot, with winged eyeliner cat eyes, strong brows, teased big 60s hair and statement jewellery.

PRINCE/ PICASSO

I'm a fan of American artist Richard Prince's work and everyone loves a bit of Picasso - put the two together and you've got a great exhibition which opened today at the Picasso Museum in Malaga.

© Richard Prince | Untitled | 2011
Ink jet, oil crayon, pastel and charcoal on canvas, 147.3 x 114.3 cm

Richard Prince has reworked Picasso in a contemporary (but arguably still fairly respectful) manner in the world premiere Prince/ Picasso exhibition.  The controversial artist has spent the past two years reinterpreting Picasso's paintings with his famed style of "rephotographing" and collage in a collection of previously unseen works.  Do pop in if you're in the south of Spain...

YELLOW HIGHLIGHTS

Inspired by this weekend's bright sunshine (in February! In England!) I'm eyeing up these sunny pieces...  Whether you want to channel pastels, neoprene, fluoro or prints, yellow is all over the top spring trends.

Nice, simple shape - if the strap was genuine leather I'd be snapping this up for an easy pastels update.

Patent strap watch by ASOS Collection. Featuring a round gold-tone bezel with stem to the 3 o’clock position, notched indexes, triple hand quartz movement, and a patent leather look strap with an adjustable length and pin buckle fastening.

There's so much scuba material going around at the moment and a handbag is a great way to jump on the trend without going down the whole wearing-a-wetsuit route...  Although neon yellow or cobalt blue? (Or both.)

Shopper bag by ASOS Collection. Featuring twin grab handles, contrast piped trim, central zipped pocket to front, soft moulded neoprene main with adjustable pin buckle strap detailing to the side.

I need these shiny plastic stripper shoes in my life.  Why can't I find them anywhere in the UK yet?

Transparent motives: Clear PVC creates the illusion that you're walking on air in this Christian Louboutin pump. Fluorescent patent leather and clear PVC upper creates d'Orsay effect. Double halter ankle-wrap with adjustable buckle. 4 3/4" covered heel displays signature red sole. Made in Italy.

Behold...  The PS1 in glorious, lurid, neon yellow.  Who needs the Cambridge Satchel?

Suede open top tote with magnetic snap closure featuring large front flap close pocket with metal foldover closure and leather pull-tab straps. Flat top handles and removable/adjustable shoulder strap. Canvas lined interior with two leather trimmed slip pockets and single zipper pocket. Made in Italy.

ASOS Bodycon Dress With Brushstroke Print

I love the Keith Haring-style pattern and busy prints aren't going anywhere soon...

Print dress by ASOS Collection. Featuring a scoop neckline with a bound edge, sleeveless styling, a contrast brushstroke print and a keyhole button fastening to reverse. Designed with a body-conscious fit and in a midi length. (also comes in a pencil skirt and, if you're feeling bold, unitard.)

NELLY WEDGES

High heels on the cobblestones at Somerset House can end in tears. Especially when the heavens opened on Saturday and it was raining buckets so stilettos were skidding and sliding.  I went for the sturdier options of these NELLY wedges at London Fashion Week yesterday, which came in handy as it turned into a mad dash running between late and even later shows…

Harriet shoes by Timeless (€85.95)

Patent wedges with espradrille style rope sole, lace up closure and rounded toe.
  • Heel height: 13 cm/ platform height: 3.5 cm
  • Punched brogue upper
  • Rubber outersole

They’re actually my new favourite shoes because, like a lot of things from NELLY.COM (and my other NELLY wedges), I haven’t seen anyone else in them.

These are now sold out but check out the other Timeless shoes and all other women's shoes.

DKNY SWEET DELICIOUS

My London Fashion Week photos will be up later this week with my outfits and favourite looks from the shows and events I’ve attended so far…  But in the meantime, the one thing I’ve worn every day at LFW is DKNY’s Creamy Meringue perfume from the new SWEET DELICIOUS range launching this spring.

Adding to the Be Delicious group of fragrances (I wore the tangy Be Delicious green apple one when it came out and Ripe Raspberry Candy Apple too), the limited edition range is inspired by cupcakes and contains three scents; Creamy Meringue, Pink Macaroon and Tart Key Lime.  I was sent the Creamy Meringue EDP last week and I haven’t worn anything else since (excluding clothes, I've obviously worn those).  I’m a firm believer that women should smell good enough to eat; sweet but not too sweet and this is the Goldilocks of mouthwatering fragrances – it smells sugary but not sickly.  Bravo, Donna Karen!

The lovely Lara Stone fronts the Sweet Delicious print campaign

Top notes include lemon cream, bergamot and crepe suzette with white amber, dry cedarwood and musk at the base and freesia, frangipani and passion flower sandwiched in between.  The zesty citrus keeps it fruity and fresh whilst the woody, musky base notes warm on your skin, staying with you all day.

AROMATHERAPY ASSOCIATES

This week’s recommended beauty buy is the Renewing Rose Cleanser (£22) from Aromatherapy Associates.

It’s a delicate cream cleanser suitable for all skin types (especially sensitive, dry or mature) with a feminine, floral fragrance which leaves skin smelling gorgeous.  It rejuvenates with essential oils to gently detoxify, refresh and brighten skin.

The damask rose water, geranium and jojoba oil help gently cleanse the skin of impurities and restore natural radiance.  Lightly massage into face and neck and rinse with warm water to leave skin feeling soft, clean and bright.

The full Aromatherapy Associates collection is also stocked at Liberty

Aromatherapy Associates has created natural treatments for thirty years with the aim of enhancing wellbeing through the use of therapeutic ingredients.  Their daily skincare collection includes luxurious blends of essential oils for face, body and bath products.  In addition to growing their product offering to include things like haircare, they’ve just opened the doors of the new Aromatherapy Associates spa and it looks absolutely super.

I might treat my mum for Mother’s Day…

To celebrate Wills and Kate’s first wedding anniversary, Barbie has designed limited edition William and Catherine Royal Wedding dolls which can be pre-ordered from Amazon from today.

Wearing pretty accurate representations of their wedding day attire, William is in a tiny little military uniform red jacket, blue sash and gold detailing whilst Catherine Middleton is wearing a teeny weenie replica of her beautiful ivory Alexander McQueen gown with a lace bodice and floor-length skirt, ivory veil, tiara and matching earrings.

Not sure who’s going to drop £99.99, but it makes a novel gift…

VINTAGE NAVY SEQUINS

Now the weather is supposedly improving and warming up a bit, I can start wearing some of my favourite jackets and blazers rather than the same bloody winter coat every day...

I'm particularly fond of this vintage sequin beast by Bruna Cavvalini.  Zippy, shiny, navy and 80s. It makes an outfit and blinds people in the street. Which is right up my street.

TEZENIS LINGERIE

I remember going into the Tezenis store on Oxford Street when it opened a few years back and thinking that it was like the GAP of underwear; cheap and cheerful, simple basics but not much to write home about. I concede that I may have unfairly dismissed the Italian lingerie brand...

ME & ZENA JEWELLERY

Valentine’s Day is coming up – and what does Valentine's Day call for?  Jewellery with hearts on, obviously!  Hip jewellery brand Me & Zena sent me this quirky gold necklace with a red heart pencil sharpener pendant, which is from their new spring/summer collection.

Wear your creative heart on your sleeve with our crafty heart sharpener necklace. We prefer a broken pencil from too much scribbling to a broken heart any day of the week. Available in gold tone with red enamel or silver tone with blue enamel.

METALLIC THREAD DRESS

Last night I wore this Metallic Thread Dress which I picked up in the Zara sale.  As much as I like clashing and metallics, I won’t be wearing this with my other shiny Zara sale find for fear of looking like a magpie.

It’s a jazzy material featuring 9% metal, but the slouchy shape, baseball sweater stitched neckline and casual elbow patches on the sleeve make it more casual.

VINTAGE VALENTINE'S CARDS

I love these sweet mid-century Valentine’s Day cards with their colourful, 50s/60s children’s book illustrations and corny sentiments.  I'd rather receive one of these than some saccharine Hallmark nonsense - perhaps a little cheesy but they’re retro so, darn it, it’s acceptable!

BRACELET STACKS

One can never have too many bracelets.  So when online jewellery retailer Celliana sent me some pieces I gladly added to my ever-growing stack of everyday bracelets. This set of three blue cord bracelets nestles in nicely between my perennial vintage sterling silver bangles and chains and another latest addition, a delicate little Cruciani Italian lace one from Pitti Uomo.

Multi Pack Diamante Friendship Bracelets
Crystal diamante weaved cord with adjustable ending, perfect for everyday casual wear.  70% cotton/ 30% glass.

Celliana specialises in exclusive handmade jewellery at affordable high street prices.  Most of the designs are limited edition with only 5-10 pieces of each style so you better be quick if you see something that you like.

Unique, trend-led, inexpensive jewellery which you won't see anyone else wearing?  Ticks all the right boxes for me...

MODELCO FIBRE LASH EYELASHES

Beauty aficionados, if you want mega lashes then by jove, you need Fibre Lash by ModelCo.

I was sent the mascara kit to try before Christmas and it's like lash extensions in a bottle.  Endorsed by Ms Dannii Minogue (who wore the product throughout The X Factor) and winner of the ‘Top Lash Secret’ award in Harpers Bazaar’s Beauty Hot 100, the extreme mascara makes eyelashes appear longer and thicker without the glue, mess and stress of false lashes.

Apply a coat of the Extension Mascara ensuring an even coating, then apply a coat of the white brush-on lash fibres and top off with a second coat of the black mascara.  Repeat steps 1 to 3 until you create a strong breeze whenever you bat your eyelashes…

You’ll never need falsies again.

ASOS WISH LIST

I'm currently coveting these four colourful chaps over at ASOS:

Orange red tailored pencil dress by ASOS Collection. Featuring a boat neckline, slim, elbow-length sleeves, darts to the bodice, a fitted waist, pin-tuck pleats to the skirt and a draped cowl back to reverse. Designed with a tailored fit and a mini length.

For days when I want to dress like a librarian: ASOS Midi Dress with 3/4 Sleeve

Sangria pink midi dress with three quarter length sleeves, featuring round neckline, slim fit to the top, pleat detailing below the waistband, and a full pleated skirt, in a stretch jersey fabric.

Purple mini dress by Aqua. Featuring a bandeau neckline, high fitted waist with a folded peplum and form fitting skirt, a concealed zip closure and kick split to reverse.

Platform loafers by ASOS Collection. Crafted in pure leather with a snake effect finish. Featuring a high cut vamp with tassel detail across the front, a square cut toe, a concealed platform sole and a high block heel.

But can I justify buying these when I have these electric blue snakeskin heels?  Hmm.

BIG MIRACLE PREVIEW SCREENING

Last week I went to a preview screening of Big Miracle, which opens today in the States and Friday 10 February in the UK.

The film is based on Operation Breakthrough which is a true story of a small town news reporter (played by US The Office’s John Krasinski) and a ballsy environmental activist (Drew Barrymore) involved in rescuing three gray whales trapped under ice in the Arctic Circle in 1988.

Heads of state, journalists from across the globe and an oil tycoon (Ted Danson) descend on a small town in the northern tip of Alaska and join forces with the Inuit locals, the National Guard and Russian military (despite Cold War tensions) to free the whales.

International news and the world’s attention was captured by the rescue adventure and Greenpeace membership figures surged as people’s attitudes towards whales and endangered species changed.

Big Miracle (PG), 107 minutes

It portrays the struggle between native traditions and environmental politics well and may be a gentle, romantic drama suitable for children, but it’s inspiring stuff.

J CREW, I LOVE YOU

J.Crew put together this marvellous look to show how you can parade around in evening pieces in broad daylight and not look like a total princess.  The contrast between the unabashedly girly pink sequins and the grungy khaki jacket and chunky knit works well and I want that (unusually pricey for J. Crew, dammit) skirt to wear with a shirt for work.

The Downtown Field Jacket
We gave a men's-inspired classic a chic makeover with a tailored silhouette and snappy gold buttons. The resin-coated canvas is water-resistant too (all the better for the showers of compliments, we say). Mossy brown cotton. Standing collar. Snap front with hidden zip closure. Long sleeves. Chest pockets.

Shrunken Fisherman Sweater
We brought back our four-season classic—the cable-knit beachwood cream crewneck sweater—now fashioned in a perfectly chunky cotton knit (great for keeping those chilly sea breezes at bay). Crewneck. Long sleeves.

No 2 Pencil Skirt in Sequins
A showstopping skirt in high-definition colour with high-wattage shine. Row upon row of glossy sequins were hand applied to body-skimming silk for a lusciously fluid feel—it's the epitome of modern glamour with a slightly longer length. (We're sporting ours with drapey knit tops for that play on proportion and luxe textures we live for.) Pencil skirt. Sits at waist. Back zip. Back vent. Fully lined.

It comes in azalea pink and an amazing fluorescent Caribbean green, which is less princess-y so perhaps more versatile.  (Of course neon green sequins are versatile!)

Which would you choose?
