Hansel and Gretel at The Southbank Centre

Hansel and Gretel at The Southbank Centre

I'm going to see Hansel & Gretel by Kneehigh Theatre tonight at The Southbank Centre.  I'm extremely excited because I've seen the the German fairytale in ballet and opera forms but never as a play.  Although, as it's the stupendously innovative, award-winning Kneehigh Theatre it won't be conventional theatre...  I absolutely fell in love with their Red Shoes production and saw it three times, adored the Wooden Frock for its refreshing, modern take on the classic Cinderella fairytale and, most recently, thoroughly enjoyed the stage adaptation of A Brief Encounter.

'Head down to the forest this Christmas as Kneehigh Theatre lead you through a spellbinding world of wit and wonder, earthly delights and eerie woods.  Times are tough and food is scarce for poor Hansel and Gretel, but who could ignore the lure of a magical gingerbread house and its boundless sweet treats?  Join us for temptations impossible to resist as this classic fairytale is told with lively music, amazing gadgets and gizmos... and the help of some rather unlucky rabbits.'

'Full of merry grotesquerie' **** (The Guardian)

'Kneehigh Theatre has a secure reputation as one of our liveliest national treasures' (The Times)

As a firm fan of Emma Rice's work, before I've seen it I can safely recommend going...
