Friday's ffffound

I ffffound this badass Polaroid.

Oasis Rosalind Prom Dress

I love the whole underwear as outerwear trend ever since Carrie Bradshaw wore a vintage cream strapless bra with cream pearls over a black top in The Real Me (season 4 SATC, possibly my favourite episode FYI). And Lady Gaga, amongst others, have embraced the trend and made it more popular than ever.

Even though it's obviously a much safer look, Oasis has a nice take on it with this gorgeous Rosalind prom dress, £25.  Very chic, very easy, very cheap.  Tick tick tick.  But cream or black?

Oh Nathan Jenden - you wonderful, wonderful man

Nathan Jenden's show on Tuesday was up there with Burberry as another LFW highlight. His AW2010 collection featured animal prints, neon colours, eccentric shapes, beautifully tailored pencil skirts and a rainbow of beautiful models with slick hair, black lips and strong brows.  Stunning.

See the rest of the collection on the Marie Claire website.

Knitted Eiffel Tower Jumper

I've often (quite rightly) been accused of being a Francophile, but whatever; j'adore ce pull rayé de Topshop:

  • Knitted striped jumper with Eiffel Tower motif
  • 100% Cotton
  • £38
  • Navy blue
Lots of girls in the InStyle office have it, but who cares about originality when it's so cheap?

Burberry AW2010

Christopher Bailey showed his second Burberry show back in London yesterday, and it didn't disappoint.
Love the beautiful autumnal palette

The 53-piece collection of covetable, wearable, military-inspired separates, the show pulled out on the wow factor in terms of beautiful clothes and a kick-ass front row; Uma Thurman, Kate Hudson, Mary-Kate Olsen, Erin O'Connor, Twiggy, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Claire Danes, Olivia Palermo, Mia Wasikowska and Anna Wintour.

Love the zip detail on the waist

It was also the first fashion week show to be streamed live in 3D to special venues around the world.  Future of fashion...

Love the blue, blue, electric blue

Basso & Brooke AW2010

Gorgeous shot from F.TAPE taken backstage at Basso & Brooke's AW2010 show today during London Fashion Week.  As usual the pair deliver with beautiful clashing printed patterns and busy designs - they reign supreme with their digital prints

Audrey Tatou at the BAFTAs

My highlight from the BAFTA red carpet last night was Audrey Tatou looking resplendent in a sugary pink ruffled Lanvin dress.

Following the spring/ summer trends for all things romantic and feminine, she opted for a girly colour but kept it real with an unusual cut and length, shunning the standard floor-length gown.

She missed out on the Best Actress award for her leading role in Coco Before Chanel to fellow pixie-cropper Carey Mulligan, but she won in the style stakes.

My least favourite BAFTA look - controversially, as fashion sites are going crazy over it this morning - was Vera Farmiga in Marchesa, who was nominated as Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in Up in the Air. Marchesa dresses are always beautiful and ethereal is one thing, but I wish people would stop wearing bridal gowns on the red carpet.

Red Fort Reopening

Last night I went to the re-opening of The Red Fort on Dean Street in Soho.

I'm not normally a massive fan of Indian food, but the canapés were incredible and the cocktails addictive.  One in particular - a gorgeous lemongrass-infused vodka mixed with vanilla sugar and juice - is responsible for a very long and slightly painful Friday... Heartily recommended.

Friday's ffffound

I ffffound this sweet little drawing and couldn't agree more.  I've always liked Pugs; their repuglsive (sorry) little squashed up faces, massive black eyes and their laborious wriggling walk.

I recently told my Dad I was going to get a Pug one day, to which he adamantly replied "No, they are deformed.  You are not getting a Pug.  They are genetically-impaired, hideous mongrels.  They're not even allowed into Crufts."

But I hadn't planned on entering it into Crufts, so I'm going to get one anyway.  Pugs not drugs.

Black Suede Wedge Boots

I've been looking for the perfect black suede high wedge platform shoe boots for a while now.  I'd like them the shape of these gorgeous Giuseppe Zanotti ankle boots (originally £469 now down to £235) but I want them to stop below the ankle.

  • hidden platform
  • hidden zip at side
  • Almond-shaped toe
  • A very respectable 14cm heel height
I've always liked simple, black or dark wedges - I love Ashish but these are for crazy people - and they're still going strong on the catwalks.

Even higher up my never-gonna-get-it wishlist is this amazing Charlotte Olympia pair.

  • Black suede shoe boots
  • Black and white striped wedge
  • Zip fastening at the back with a black suede tassel attached
  • Almond-shaped toe
Stocked at Browns they're an unfortunate £750 but as an investment wardrobe piece would make any outfit, as shown by the designer herself with her punk little sister Alice Dellal.

Matt Stuart's Happy Accident

Happy Accidents is an excellent photography show running until 27 February at the KK Outlet in Hoxton Square.

Matt Stuart is a street photographer who must just hang around waiting for these happy accidents to happen. Here are my four favourite photos from the exhibition; witty and beautifully-shot on his trusty Leica.

The Turban Debate

Ah, the turban.  Never has there been such divisive, er, headwear.  I don't even know how to describe it, never has their been such a divisive bit of fabric wrapped round and knotted on top of someone's head for non-religious or cultural reasons.  There.

Prada caused a stir launching their silk satin jewel-coloured turbans way back in the SS07 collection which made a massive impact in the glossies and amongst daring fashionistas.

Jessica Stam in Prada's SS07 turban

Eva Mendes wore a shiny green Prada turban in Citizen K and Snoop Dogg wore a turban performing the title song in the Bollywood film 'Singh is Kinng'.  So far, so good.

This is a good look: Snoop looking like a G

However. I like Mary-Kate Olsen's individual style but I gasped in horror when she wore Marc Jacobs' AW08 headband with a multicoloured sack, which went down as one of her worst fashion mistakes and scared me off any crazy headwear. Not a good look.

Eva Mendes snake-charming in Citizen K

As with any statement accessory there's always going to be a love/ hate divide, but I like:
  • Experimental fashion
  • Hats
  • Sumptuous fabrics and jewel colours.
I dislike:
So I think as long as it's more of a hat than an odd headband, a la Mary-Kate, I'm on the yes side of the fence.  Phew, I can't tell you how long I've thought about this one.  Well, since the Spring/ Summer 2007 collection came out, but now I can finally relax.

New York Fashion Week Front Rows

New York Fashion Week is in full swing and the stars are out in force.
 BCBG Max Azria

Favourites from yesterday's front rows included Leigh Lezark (as always) in wet-look leggings and royal blue sat with ex-Destiny's Childer Michelle Williams in a slinky black dress and a pixie crop and Maggie Rizer in mustard at BCBG Max Azria.

 DKNY

Demi Moore looked gorgeous in a berry-coloured satin dress at DKNY and (even though I'm not a massive fan due to her perpetuation of the whole loose-flowing maxi-obsessed bohemian look and morphing half of Hollywood into wearing the same generic hippie style for way too long) Rachel Zoe's nude thigh-high platform boots are killer.

DKNY

The paparazzi went into overdrive over Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields and Demi Moore  arriving at the DKNY show.  I love the simple drape cut and clashing bright red and pink colours on Brooke Shield's jersey dress paired with chic, metallic strappy platforms.

Fashion for Relief Haiti

Olivia Palermo took to the catwalk of Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief Haiti as part of her NYFW blitzkrieg; she's a firm front row perennial, showing up to all the schedule highlights in an array of outfits each day.  I'm worryingly fond of The City and Olivia Palermo's style in particular - she looks so pretty (she's been taking note of Keira Knightley's pouty smile) with shiny dark curls and smoky eyes, wearing an embellished black dress.

Robert Pattinson Details

R-Patz is on the front cover of Details' tenth anniversary issue, out 23 February.

Yeah that works.  He owns that whole broody stare thing he's got going on.  In the article he's still denying relationship rumours with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart and instead talks about the only meaningful relationship in his life being that with his dog.  Damn lucky dog.

Friday's ffffound

A Valentine's Day-themed ffffound.  So sweet.

Miu Miu Blue Lace-up Boots

Not normally one for pushing the sartorial envelope, Jessica Alba looked fantastic stepping out on the red carpet for London's premiere of Valentine's Day last night.  The massive cast of column-inch-worthy actors doing the press trail is keeping each other on their toes by upping the style stakes.

Jessica Alba wore a gingham Prada puffball dress (I don't like checks but I do like this) and blue lace-up Miu Miu boots.  Those boots.  Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

Accessorize Pink Plastic Flower Ring

Today I am wearing this gorgeous Marc Jacobs daisy-esque ring from Accessorize.  It's pink, shiny and very large - despite the miserable white skies outside, how can you be not be in a good mood with this bad boy on your finger?

I love huge cocktail rings and costume jewellery to make a big impact and dress up a simple outfit, but I'm so sick of buying rings which aren't real silver, gold or platinum as they end up rusting and turning your finger green.  Gross.

So, even though I think you need to be wary as plastic jewellery veers dangerously towards children's dressing up territory, I'm giving this one a go and so far, so good.

RIP Alexander McQueen

On the eve of his mother's funeral, Alexander McQueen hung himself in his London flat yesterday.  It's terribly sad news and the fashion world has been rapturous in paying respects to the inspirational British designer for the past 24 hours.

Python Flapper Novak Bag

I wonder if the McQueen house will still show his 'Hells, Angels & Prolific Demons' collection later this month during Paris Fashion Week.  It'd be a sensitive issue for those who knew and loved him, but the Gucci group own 51% of the McQueen house and I reckon it might come down to a savvy business decision.

Chanel Iman in Russian Vogue in Alexander McQueen

A massive hyped, climactic posthumous collection to cement his status as fashion great; inspiring designers, editors, stylists and buyers the world over one last time.  It would obscure all other shows and would be the hottest ticket in New York, London, Paris and Milan.

 Lady Gaga head-to-toe in SS10's alien-inspired pieces

His McQ diffusion line presentation, scheduled as part of New York Fashion Week yesterday, was cancelled.  As much as I'd love to see his last collection, let's hope Gucci handle the main McQueen line show with the same decency, grace and respect.

Zoe Saldana in a Tribal Print

Zoe Saldana looked kickass at last night's amFAR party to launch New York Fashion Week.  In my favourite look of the night (Lady Gaga, take those pearls off your face you silly berk) Saldana wore a high-necked dress in an usual bronze tribal print.

I love that the smart cut of her dress is a girly prom shape but she kept the accessories dark with black embellished shoe boots and dramatic sweeping eye make up to toughen the look up. Not usually a fan of wearing anything even remotely brown, but this is a win.  Although, I like her tribal get-up in Avatar more.

Avatar's now surpassed James Cameron's previous box office smash Titanic, grossing $630 million and counting.  Go Team Na'vi!

Gant & DKNY Perfume

Last night it was all about the American launches; I went to the opening of GANT's new store on Regent Street and DKNY's new fragrance launch.  GANT artfully combine traditional American style with a European flair and the wooden, Ralph Lauren-esque space suited the brand well.  Split over two floors, the spacious flagship caters for all things East Coast-inspired: nautical stripes, boat shoes, rugby shirts under the new Rugger collection and lots of sweaters to be worn over the shoulders.  There were some nice dresses modelled by girlies, a DJ spinning dance tunes and hella cocktails.

DKNY Delicious fragrances - beauty blog

Adding to their Delicious range of fragrances, DKNY launched their new limited edition perfumes yesterday.  The Candy Apple trio consists of Sweet Caramel, Ripe Raspberry and Juicy Berry and will be sold for three months from April. I chose Ripe Raspberry as my favourite - an unusual blend of apple, lime, peony, lily and cola accord.  It's not so much berry, it's more fresh with a clean burst of citrus and a mouthwatering fruity smell good enough to eat...

I Love L'Occitane

L'Occitane has launched its first make-up range and, having missed the press event last week, the lovely PR people sent me some beautiful products. Focusing on different peonies, each item has luxurious ingredients and natural floral scents and come packaged in eco recycled pots and paper packets like garden seeds.

From the make-up collection there's an illuminating powder which is a light, translucent pink, white and green pretty patterned pot and a limited edition face powder which is a fresh, versatile blusher in a gorgeous petal colour.

For lips there's a liquid shine lip colour which smells good enough to eat and adds a glossy sheen in a salmon pink colour, flecked with gold glitter.  There's also a lip & cheek tinted water which is a liquid blush which brings out a healthy glow and, apparently, makes you look like you've blushed like a peony.  Having not seen a peony blush, I'll have to take their word.

Then for those who like a daring, rich lip colour there's a fabulous deep crimson red lipstick called Feu d'Artifice with dashes of warm gold for a melted, deep shade.

Now, all the make-up is gorgeous but the fragrance collection is gorgeous.  Featuring Paeonia extracts, the beauty milk is a light pink moisturiser made of grape seed oil, shea butter and peony extract which melts straightaway and leaves your skin smelling fantastic.  The Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette is a lovely floral scent with a green freshness which stays with you all day and I'm wearing it right now.  I must say, I smell wonderful...

Miss Selfridge SS10

Miss Selfridge has just released images of their upcoming SS10 collection and woah, girly summer dresses in abundance!

 Red Ruffle Shoulder Dress

The whole collection seems focused on 70s/90s vintage-inspired pieces: revisiting ditzy floral prints, sadly revisiting harem pants (so hard to get right), light cropped jackets, pretty prom dresses, embroidered sheer panels, distressed denim peppered throughout, 90s crop tops and an overdose of adornment: beading, feathers, sequins here, fringing there, ruffles everywhere.

2 in 1 Stripe Dress

 Red corsage shoes

Navy Sequin Prom Dress With Pink Flowers

Grey Studded Jacket

Balloon Print Dress

Polka Dot Harem Trousers
